Your account

Everything in Lineal is under Your account: open Today and tap your initial in the top right corner. You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a six-digit code we email you — there is no password to forget.

Deleting your account, and everything in it

Your account → Delete account. That deletes your account, your family tree, your questions and their answers, and your practice photos, immediately and permanently. If you started a tree you share with family, the tree itself isn't deleted with you: it passes to someone else in it, so their family tree doesn't disappear. What you added stays in it. If you joined someone else's tree, you leave it and it stays with them.

Lineal Plus

Lineal Plus opens every story for your lines, every step of every practice, and a family tree you build with up to five other people. Your tree, your heritage, today's read and the first steps of every practice are free and stay free.

Plus is sold by Apple. To change or cancel it, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next payment and you keep Plus until the period you've paid for ends. Apple handles refunds, at reportaproblem.apple.com.

If you've paid and the app doesn't know it, open Your account → Lineal Plus and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account that bought it.

Gifts

A gift arrives as a code and a link. Open the link on the iPhone you want it on, or enter the code in Your account → Redeem a gift. A gift doesn't renew, and its months are counted from the day it's redeemed, not the day it was bought — so there's no hurry, and no rush either.

Two things worth knowing. A gift redeemed while an earlier gift is still running is added to the end of it. But a gift does not pause a subscription you pay for: it starts the day you redeem it and runs alongside. If you already pay for Plus, either wait until your subscription is nearly up before redeeming, or cancel the subscription first — you keep Plus until the period you've paid for ends.

Inviting family

One family tree, six people counting you, covered by whoever is paying. Send the invitation from Lineage → Family; the person who accepts sees the same tree and their own heritage worked out from where they sit in it. Relatives you only ask a question of don't need Lineal at all — they answer on a web page, and see only that question.

Gatherings in Kin

Dates and times come from the host's own page, and are checked by hand before they're published. Where a host has published the day but not the hour, Lineal shows the day and says so rather than inventing a time — check with the host before you set off. If you find one that's wrong or has moved, please tell us: it saves somebody a wasted journey.

Something in a story looks wrong

Every story names its sources at the end. If something is wrong, or your family does it differently, email us with the story's title. Corrections are welcome and we'd rather know.

Privacy

What Lineal keeps, and what it doesn't, is on the privacy page. There are no ads and no tracking.
